I love a good celebration (ESPECIALLY when it comes to writing)!
I snuck into Ms. Johnson's fourth grade classroom for their writing celebration. The students had popcorn and snacks and quietly listened as each author went to the front of the room and shared his or her story. After they finished reading, students shared things they really liked and Ms. Johnson shared her ideas as well. She had a lovely comment on dialogue that I immediately shared in an email with all our teachers and I'm sharing with you now:
Remember: dialogue tells us what a person says, but it also tells us about the person. In the story, her dad kept saying, "Don't give up," which tells us he is supportive.
She related dialogue to their reading AND writing, which is where we're really trying to make the connection this year. Great work, Ms. Johnson and class!! :)
