Our third grade team has been working hard this year implementing new ideas into the writing curriculum to help students take ownership of their learning. We tried out this great idea from Julie Ballews' blog, which has been going really well. The students are using the suggestion cards during their independent writing and becoming more reflective in their conferences.
Mrs. Vena decided to take the editing checklist the students had been using and incorporate it into their daily writing plans by printing the checklist, stapling it into their notebooks, and putting tape over the check area. Students can use a dry erase marker and use their editing checklist at any time during their writing to go back and self-assess.
